Fast and effective, microdermabrasion removes the outer layer of dead skin so your complexion is brighter and healthier. During your consultation, our team (led by Dr. Abraham (Avi) Ishaaya) will create a unique treatment plan for your needs and cosmetic goals.

Who is a candidate for microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion can reduce the visibility of blemishes on your skin's surface. If you have fine lines, dull skin tone, uneven texture, clogged pores, sun damage, and scars, then microdermabrasion might be right for you. It is safe and effective for women and men that would like clearer, healthier skin. These treatments are most often performed on the face; however, it may also benefit your chest, neck, and hands. Microdermabrasion should not be performed on skin with an open wound or a chronic condition, like acne or rosacea.
What to Expect During Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion treatments are performed in our office following a thorough consultation. For the treatment, you will sit back in a comfortable chair as your face is prepared and cleaned. The microdermabrasion handpiece will run along your skin as the tool both polishes and vacuums the debris.
This noninvasive treatment usually does not cause pain or discomfort. You shouldn't need a numbing cream or local anesthesia. The microdermabrasion treatment will be performed evenly in the chosen areas with more care in delicate areas, like around the eyes. As soon as the treatment is done, the skin will be cleaned to get rid of any leftover debris. We will apply a moisturizer, selected for your skin's needs with sun protection, and massage it into your skin.
How Long is Recovery After Microdermabrasion?
Following a microdermabrasion procedure, you may get back to your regular day, but you need to wear sunscreen or another form of sun protection since your baby-like skin will be sensitive. The treated areas should feel smoother, and your tone will look even. To prolong the benefits, Dr. Ishaaya suggests having these procedures once every 4 – 6 weeks. Many Optima Medical Spa patients feel that after treatments, their home skin care products (especially moisturizers) soak easily into their skin for better results.
MICRODERMABRASION FAQs
How much does microdermabrasion cost?
The fees for microdermabrasion treatments can be discussed in your consultation. After we assess your skin, your personal microdermabrasion treatment plan will be created. Also, Optima Medical Spa often has specials on skin treatments, like microdermabrasion.
How often should I get microdermabrasion treatments?
Initially, you should have 5 – 12 microdermabrasion sessions scheduled about 2 – 4 weeks apart. After that, you should schedule appointments every 4 – 8 weeks to maintain the health of your skin. During your consultation, we can develop a treatment plan with suggestions for your skin's needs and map out when you need to schedule all your appointments for microdermabrasion.
How should I care for my skin after a microdermabrasion treatment?
After your microdermabrasion, you should limit your activity for the rest of the day to allow your skin time to rest and heal. You need to avoid direct exposure to UV rays (tanning beds and natural sunlight) and protect your skin with sunscreen. To limit swelling and redness after the treatment, Dr. Ishaaya might recommend a soothing skin serum or cold compresses.
Should I get microdermabrasion, dermabrasion, or a chemical peel?
Based on your skin and aesthetic goals, our skin care professionals will help you understand if microdermabrasion, dermabrasion, or a chemical peel is the best treatment. In general, microdermabrasion clears away the surface layer of dead and damaged skin cells to make your complexion look smoother and healthier. A light chemical peel produces similar results to microdermabrasion. Dermabrasion or a stronger chemical peel can help if your issues have more to do with the deeper layers of skin. Another variable that may help you decide between procedures is recovery time, as microdermabrasion requires minimal downtime in comparison to the other treatments.
Can I combine microdermabrasion with other treatments?
Since microdermabrasion is a surface skin treatment, you may consider combining it with other procedures. You may get microdermabrasion along with a facial or an injectable wrinkle treatment, like BOTOX®. Please be open about all your aesthetic worries during your consultation so your technician can build a plan that reaches all your cosmetic goals.
